Studies of Aerosol Effects on Climate Using Satellite Data
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position with the Aerosol and Cloud MicroPhysics Group at NASA-Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, CA. The long term research goal of our group is to study the effects of aerosols and clouds on climate and air quality. We pursue this goal through a program of satellite data analysis, field measurements and modeling studies. We are employing our expertise in validation (as members of the HIRDLS validation team)and analysis of satellite data (eg. POAM, HIRDLS, MODIS) to investigate science issues such as

The interaction of thin cirrus and cumulus clouds and their effect on dehydration in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere
Long term trends in aerosol optical depth and fine mode concentrations
The interaction of aerosol and clouds.

The prospective post-doctoral candidate will investigate these and other scientific issues using advanced data analysis tools as appropriate. The position will be under the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) (formerly the National Research Council Associate Program).

Position Requirements:

PhD in the physical sciences, preferable Atmospheric Sciences or Physics.
Experience working with satellite data and computer models.
Ability to work as a member of a team on various projects.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
