WRAP update.
The WRAP team deployed to NASA-Dryden to support the Ames-developed AMS-WILDFIRE sensor in a instrument checkout mission aboard the NASA Ikhana. The flight was flown on Aug. 8. All system operations were tested and passed procedural tests. The first flight of the system in support of the Western States UAV Fire Imaging Mission Series will be on August 16. This will be the first operation of the new NASA Ikhana UAV in the National Airspace. The mission will encompass over 10-hours of imaging wildfires throughout the state of California. DEVELOP students present work at NASA HQ.
Three of this year's DEVELOP interns traveled to Langley Research Center, and then to NASA HQ, to present their work before program managers, Aug. 10. Accompanied by Dr. Jay Skiles (SGE) and Cindy Schmidt (SJSU), ARC DEVELOP mentors, the students discussed their research findings from three projects conducted over the summer. One group studied air quality in the San Joqauin Valley using data from a variety of NASA missions and by using ground based measurements of aerosols and particulates. Another studied the correlation between ground-based and spaced-based measurements of Leaf Area Index in Yosemite National Park. A third group worked with NOAA to produce historical tropical storm animations for NOAA's Pacific Rim Integrated Climatology Products (PRICIP) Project. These animations will be placed on the NOAA storm portal.

The fifth annual DEVELOP seminar will be held Aug. 17 in the Space Auditorium, Bldg. 245, at 11:00 a.m. It is open to the Ames Community. (POC: Jay Skiles, , 4-3614)
