SGG team re-installs instrument at DOE climate research facility
Warren Gore and Tony Trias reinstalled their Shortwave Spectroradiometer (SWS) at the Department of Energy's Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Climate Research Facility (ACRF) near Lamont, OK, Jan. 10-12. The SWS measures visible and near infrared spectral radiance in the atmosphere and observes cloud formation processes and their influence on the radiative transfer between Earth and the atmosphere. The instrument was initially installed last May, but had been brought back to Ames for recalibration. Once the instrument was back in place, it was a race against impending ice storms for the team's return to California. As all departing flights from Oklahoma City were cancelled, the team made a hasty 240 mile drive to Dallas/Fort Worth Airport for another flight home.
