The More Things Change

Objectives:

• acquaint students with the concept of remote sensing
  
• encourage careful observation and recording
  
• focus student attention on changes in the environment
  

Time Duration: one 50-minute period

Grade Level: 7-9

Materials required:

• Student worksheets from the lesson The Forest or the Trees
  
• Colored pencils, pens or crayons
  
• Student worksheets
  
• Color printout or transparency: Nitrous Oxide Emissions and Global Climate Change
  
• Student handouts: Text that accompanies above transparency
  

Procedures:
Read and discuss the background paragraphs with the class. Explain that they will be tracing one of the images they drew in the lesson The Forest or the Trees, then using false-color imaging to code for changes in the biotic and abiotic parts of the environment.
