It's Alive ! (or not ?)

Objectives:

Time Duration: one 50-minute class period

Grade Level: 7-9

Materials Required:

Transparency or color printouts from: Detection of Seasonal and Annual Changes in Migratory Waterfowl Habitats

Student handouts: Text that accompanies the above transparency or color printout

Procedures:
Read and discuss the background paragraphs with the class. Explain that they will be coloring the outline drawings they made in a previous lesson. They will be doing two different types of coloring: true-color imaging and false-color imaging. When they color in true colors they are simulating a color photograph. When they color with false colors according to a color key, they are simulating the work of a computer, using colors to show selected features in the image.
