Sensor Specifications: JERS

The JERS satellite was launched in 1992 and was retired in 1998. The satellite had a 570-km orbit and carried two sensors: Optical Sensor (OPS) and SAR. The SAR polarization is HH. The OPS sensed in the visible and near-IR portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Both instruments had a swath width of 75km. The satellite's repeat cycle was 44 days.

An interesting feature of the OPS was twin near-IR channels. Band 4 was pointed 15° forward, so when combined with band 3 this instrument could provide stereo imagery in the near-IR.
