AVHRR Sea Surface Temperature

copepod

The following are bi-weekly subsets from weekly AVHRR Global Composite SST images from 1992. The color scheme is from lowest to highest temperature: purple - blue - cyan - green - yellow - orange - red. These images run from week one (1 Jan 1992) from top left across and down to the last week, week 53 (31 Dec 1992). The "strange" cold plume coming up from the bottom on week 35 could be due to an interpolation error, since these data are interpolated in the case of missing data, e.g., no raw data due to clouds.

These data show the typical pattern for the Bay of Bengal: cold in the winter, warming up in the spring, hot in the early summer, warm in the mid-summer, hot again in the early fall, and cooling down late in the year.
