Laboratory Studies of Heterogeneous Atmospheric Chemistry
A postdoctoral research position is available in the Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratory in the Earth Science Division at NASA-Ames in Mountain View, CA.
Research will examine the interactions between gases and liquid substrates representative of atmospheric aerosol and cloud particles. In particular, this project will examine the solubility of multifunctional organic compounds in aerosol particles and cloud droplets and will evaluate their reactions and possible retention by aerosol particles once the cloud evaporates. Photolysis of organics in solution is also of interest.
Previous laboratory and/or field experience is required. Knowledge of chemical kinetics, high vacuum instrumentation, and atmospheric chemistry is highly desired. Familiarity with infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and liquid chromatography will be advantageous. Development of secondary projects which foster collaborations with other researchers at NASA Ames is also encouraged.
Position Requirements:
- PhD in the physical sciences, preferably Chemistry or Atmospheric Sciences.
- Experience working with analytical instrumentation.
- Ability to work as a member of a team on various projects.
- .
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Unfortunately, candidates who hold passports from certain countries, such as P.R. China, North Korea, and India, are not eligible for this position. For further information please contact:
