Phil Russell attends Kaufman Memorial Symposium.
Phil Russell (SGG) gave an invited talk at the Yoram Kaufman Memorial Symposium on Aerosols, Clouds and Climate that was held at Goddard Space Flight Research Center (GFRC), May 30-June 1. His talk, "A Perspective on Aerosol Remote Sensing and Climate Research: TARFOX as a Stepping Stone to the State of the Art," was part of the session dealing with Aerosol Field Campaigns. Symposium participants are invited to submit a journal article to the Yoram J. Kaufman special issue of the Journal of Geophysical Research , to be published at a later date.

Yoram Kaufman, a leading scientist at GFRC whose research led to greater understanding of global warming, died May 31, 2006. His primary fields were meteorology and climate change, with a specialty in analyzing aerosols. Additionally, he was a senior atmospheric scientist in the Earth-Sun Exploration Division and played a key role in the development of NASA's Terra satellite. (POC: Phil Russell, 4-5404, )

Steve Hipskind attends Silicon Valley Leadership Conference on solar energy .
Steve Hipskind (Chief) attended the Silicon Valley Leadership Conference, June 1, in San Jose, CA. The conference established the Solar Center for Excellence (SCE) and featured Energy Summit 2007, a major daylong conference on solar power, energy efficiency and clean technology. The summit examined ways of making Silicon Valley the epicenter for solar energy, energy efficiency and clean energy technology. SCE in Silicon Valley is a technical and educational resource focused on regional economic development and cost competitive solutions for solar industry and its customers. Former Secretary of State George P. Shultz delivered the keynote address. (POC: Steve Hipskind, 4-5076,

Vern Vanderbilt, et al, publish paper in Remote Sensing of Environment .
Vern C. Vanderbilt, Shruti Khanna, Susan L. Ustin are the authors of the paper, “Impact of Pixel Size on Mapping Surface Water in Subsolar Imagery,” that was recently published in Remote Sensing of Environment (vol. 109, pp: 1-9). (Vern Vanerbilt, 4-4254, )

Liane Guild and Brad Lobitz attend AVIRIS workshop.
Liane Guild (SGE) and Brad Lobitz (CSUMB) attended the Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) Science Workshop in Pasadena, CA, May 30-June 1. Guild's presentation, “NASA Airborne AVIRIS and DCS Remote Sensing of Coral Reefs” gave an overview of the 2005 airborne mission over Caribbean coral reefs, including the field data collection methodology and data processing. Lobitz presented the details of the AVIRIS data processing and correction of a stray light anomaly in a talk entitled, “Suppression of Stray Light in Caribbean 2004 and 2005 AVIRIS Imagery”.
