Earth Science Division Highlights for week ending Nov. 29, 2006.
WRAP Media Update
Dan Ashley, news anchor at KGO-TV (ABC, Ch 7), San Francisco, interviewed Vince Ambrosia (CSUMB/SGE) on November 22. The segment, which should air later this week or next, concerned the Wildfire Research and Applications Partnership (WRAP) project team's lead in the Altair UAS flight and AMS-Wildfire scanner data collection over the Esperanza Fire in Southern California late last month. The news segment is part of a new series, hosted by Ashley, which focuses on innovative scientific and technical topics. The network opened the series with a focus on NASA-Ames activities. Randy Berthold returns from High Lakes Project
Randy Berthold (SGE), Diving Safety Officer for NASA Ames Research Center, returned November 24 after three weeks of supporting the successful 2006 High Lakes Project diving activities at the Licancabur Volcano in the Chilean and Bolivian Andes. All diving related goals and objectives were accomplished. At an elevation of over 19,000 feet, this unique extreme diving environment required the development of new diving standards (dive tables, medical standards, remote support capabilities) and special technical diving protocols. Field support activities included dive team training and certification and safety management operations. For more information about the project, please visit the website, http://highlakes.seti.org/ .
