Picarro Greenhouse Gas Sensor

Commercial unit (model 2301-m) measures carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and water vapor in ambient air (0.5 Hz) using cavity ring-down spectroscopy. Instrument has been repackaged to meet environmental and safety specifications and to fit wing-mounted payload pod.

Ozone Sensor

Comercial unit (2B Technology Model 205) measures ozone (O3) in ambient air (0.5 Hz) using UV absorption. Modifications include biration isolators, UV lamp heaters, upgrade of pressure sensor, temperature controlled box, replacement of fittings to meet aircraft operating conditions and requirements.

MMS

The Meteorological Measurement Systems (MMS), an ARC- developed provides very accurate pressure, temperature, and 3-D wind data. (Left: instrument ismounted in wing pod.)

Ajax team installing instrument pods
AJAX team members mount the instru-
mented wing pod onto the Alpha Jet in
preparation for a research flight.

The instruments are housed in the starboard external wing pod. Each has a separate inlet and has been tested under a wide variety of flight maneuvers.
